So let’s begin with what we know.

  1. Why not do a 9 to 5?
  • At this point in time, has something caught your attention? Like lets say, MMA or may be rock climbing, or whatever it may be? How do you feel when you do it? Don’t you get lost doing that particular thing and when you reach home, you feel like you’re still not done? You look up stuff about it and most importantly, you look forward to doing it again the next day. Excitement, isn’t it?
  • A lot of times we don’t realize that everything that exists in this world is part of a subject, and the more you get into it, the more you discover its secrets. For instance, to the untrained eye – fashion simply means what s/he sees people wearing on the streets. But to master it, you need to look deeper, learn its nuances, and in the process discover a whole different world of styles, fabric, fall, and what “feels” right per each subject. Once you become a part of that world, you start looking at the world only through those pair of eyes.
  • Risk is overrated. When a child tries to walk for the first time, it is risky. But why do we not call it risky and try to stop it? Because adults have been through it too and they know that “to fall” is alright while learning to walk. These adults shape public opinion – in case of walking it is positive; however, in case of startups they will label it risky. Imagine a world where there are no great authors, no mountain-climbers, no freedom fighters, no national leaders – what kind of world will that be? People will be willing to do jobs, but there will be no jobs because there will have been no entrepreneurs. You won’t be able to set examples for your children, since there won’t be examples of great athletes and people of great character. Because it was risky.

So coming back to our question: 9-5 is just a timing, that we as a society have agreed to work within, but that does not mean that it has to define us.

The question that you need to ask yourself is: If God stepped down and offered you an extension of several years while you’re on your deathbed, to complete your life’s work: What would you choose?

Or will you still think about “having the weekend off”?
